My Editing Services

Why Polymerase Editing? As biologists and biochemists know, DNA polymerase enzymes are capable of proofreading and editing newly-formed DNA to remove mistakes during replication. I chose this name to convey to my authors that my primary academic editing specialty is in the biomedical sciences. My goal as an academic editor is to help you polish your language so that you can clearly share your research with the scientific community and the general public. Your studies are the product of years of training, collaboration, creativity, grit, failures, and successes. I am here to help you clearly communicate the results of your hard work so that even more discoveries can be made.

Types of Services

  • Developmental Editing

With a developmental edit, I will focus on the overall content and organization of the document and address any significant gaps or issues with logical flow. I will provide a detailed Editor’s Letter summarizing my analysis of each section of the document along with corresponding revision recommendations. I will point out any necessary reorganization of the manuscript to ensure that all information is included in the appropriate sections. I will analyze the figures and tables to ensure accurate corresponding descriptions in the text. If a target journal has been provided, I will check to ensure that the manuscript aligns with the target audience and meets the aims and scope of the journal.

  • Copy/Line Editing

I combine copyediting and line editing services to correct any grammar, punctuation, word usage, spelling, or formatting errors. For simple grammatical errors, I will edit the text directly using the Track Changes feature in Microsoft Word; however, if there are sections of the text that might require significant rewrites, and/or the intended meaning is unclear, I will highlight these sections and offer guidance in a separate comment. I will also ensure consistent formatting throughout the document in terms of font, headings, spacing, line numbers, references, figures, and tables. If a specific target journal is provided, I will follow that journal’s formatting guidelines. I will ensure that all figures, tables, and references are accurately cited in the text.

  • Writing

Some journals require an additional cover letter when submitting a manuscript for review. This cover letter needs to summarize succinctly the key findings of the manuscript, and how this research aligns with the journal’s aims and scope. It is generally limited to one page. I can provide this letter upon request as a special add-on service.
